Learning Outcomes for 4-5 Year Olds

Topic: Alphabet Recognition
Age: 4-5 Years

Learning outcomes need to be age appropriate and will allow the student to demonstrate to the teacher what they have learned at the end of a lesson. These objectives will state the actions the students will take in order to achieve the objective.

Learner Outcomes:
  • The student will be able to identify the letters of the alphabet by sight.
  • The student will be able to name the letters of the alphabet when shown them in any order.
  • The student will be able to arrange the letters of the alphabet in order that are written on flash cards.

    Rational & Test Items

I feel that early recognition of the alphabet will help promote literacy skills such as early reading, and spelling which are important in preventing life-long educational and social problems. According to (Kubiszyn & Borich, 2010) objectives at the knowledge level of Bloom Taxonomy requires students to remember by asking the student to recall or recognize facts, terminology, problem-solving, strategies, or rules.

  • The teacher will have the alphabet laminated on the floor and will ask the child to stand on the letter she names.
  • The child will verbally identify the letters of the alphabet as the teacher puts them on the flannel board.
  • The child will be given letter flash cards that are laid out on a table, the teacher will ask the child to put the letters in alphabetical order.
